2 Incredible Resources

The Bible and Its Influence is a textbook initially launched in September 2005. It is the only First-Amendment-safe textbook that supports academic study of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The classroom textbook is taught in over 640 public high schools in 44 states and has achieved a 10 percent market share in six states in the U.S.  More than 140,000 students have benefited from instruction based on this textbook. Because of its broad acceptance in the educational community and its widespread use nationally, it has become the standard for academic Bible study in the U.S. It is also fast becoming the academic standard in the global community.

It is the foundation of the Language Arts or Social Studies high school elective course.

Developed over a five-year period with input from 40 leading scholars, religious leaders, and academic practitioners, The Bible and Its Influence is an opportunity to share the contents of the Bible in an appropriate way. Used in combination with the Bible, the textbook presents biblical content - the narratives, characters, plots, poetry, letters, events, parables, prophecies, and proverbs in the Bible. The program was designed to address the fact that, without an understanding of the Bible, today's youth cannot fully understand literature, art, history, music, or culture.

The teacher’s edition provides instructional tools and strategies to ensure a rigorous academic program for students. The teacher’s edition includes a wrap-around design of instructional notes, critical thinking activities, and connections and applications to other academic content areas. Teacher materials also include Pacing Guides, Lesson Plans, Graphic Organizers, Chapter and Unit Tests, and Unit Project and Writing Activities with rubrics.) Together these books provide the tools for a successful Bible course.

Wisdom Literature from the Bible is a standards-based (NCTE/IRA) curriculum that uses literary material from the Wisdom writings (Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, and Job) in the Hebrew Scriptures to teach English/Language Arts objectives. It may be used as a three-week stand-alone unit or can be used as a supplementary resource for a high school English course. Using verses from these books, students apply critical thinking skills, analysis, and oral and written skills to interpret meanings and imagery of selected material. Students also experience the influence of some of these writings on art, drama, and music.

The Teacher Instructional Guide includes daily lesson plans each of which includes vocabulary (list of words and definitions used in the lesson), People and Places (at the beginning of each chapter), Text References (list of page numbers in the student text), Background Information for the Teacher (information helpful in creating lesson plans), and Resources (recommended instructional tools). In addition, each lesson contains Learner Objectives, Student Applications and Activities, Cross-Curricular Activities, and Cultural Connections.
